EAWFiles (Exclusive)
Released: April. 18, 2005
Snippet: Down to the game itself, not much in the way of specific information has been released yet by either developer or publisher. However, from interviews and some 'logical' speculation, the community has been piecing bits together for a while now, ever hungry for more. There are two main technical issues in this title that seem to vie for the most attention, one is the resource system proposed and in place while the other lies in planetary and space battles.

Gamespy
Released: Jan. 28, 2005
Snippet: Picture a galactic map populated by 20 or 30 planets (the exact number is yet to be finalized). At the outset of the campaign mode, their distribution is markedly uneven between the two factions, with the Empire, naturally, controlling the bulk of them. You have your entire army at your disposal to deploy to all corners of the galaxy -- you can send a group of Mon Calamari cruisers to engage the Imperial fleet orbiting Planet X, for instance, while in the meantime dispatching land forces to overrun the modest defenses of Planet Y.

Action Trip
Released: Feb. 3, 2005
Snippet: Other aspects of this game promise to be as complex and immersive as its visual side. The thing is, Empire at War is a massive, and very ambitious project that hopes to put you in the middle of the battle for the fate of the galaxy. Other titles have attempted to capture that feeling and they have mostly failed, as they couldn't bring back the fun of the original movies. Empire of War will allow you to be an active part of the great conflict letting you experience first-hand how the epic events in the game are shaping the Star Wars universe.

Computer And Videogames
Released: 21 Jan 05
Snippet: But how will Empire At War manage to stand out from an already hugely competitive RTS field? "It combines the gameplay of modern RTS games with the rich Star Wars universe, but it's crafted in such a way as to introduce innovation and remove some of the repetition and tedious aspects that have crept into the genre," says Brett.

PC IGN
Released: January 26, 2005
Snippet: Brett showed us an opening cinematic, created almost entirely from in-game assets. The scrolling text tells of the Alliance's plans to capture a new Empire fighter prototype called the X-Wing. The camera pans across a star field, stopping just as a Rebel fleet hyperspaces in at takes up orbit around a nearby planet. Troop transports descend to the surface and land outside an Imperial base. Infantry and tanks swarm out of the ships as AT-ATs and stormtroopers rush to meet them. The Rebels gain the edge in the firefight after calling in a pair of Y-Wings to take out the Imperial AT-AT. With the Imperial forces routed, the Rebels seize the X-Wing prototypes and launch off into space.

Games Radar
Released: 13/01/05
Snippet: But what makes this venture into the Star Wars universe so fascinating is that the battle for control of the universe isn't broken up into a series of episodes or missions. Instead, the whole world continues with each victory or defeat tipping the scales in favour of either the Sith or the Alliance.

1Up
Released: 01/11/2005
Snippet: Here's what Empire at War is not doing: excessive resource management. "Nobody wants to see a droid chopping down trees to build a base," laughs Tosti. "In most RTS games out right now, you spend 80 percent of your time gathering resources to build up some megaforce. You battle this megaforce, and the outcome is simply determined by sheer numbers and how quickly you gathered rocks and lumber".

Gamespot
Released: Jan. 19, 2005
Snippet: These tactical situations highlight some of the major differences between the two factions. The Rebels will begin the game, as you might expect, at a material disadvantage, so they'll have limited resources, limited holdings, and even limited technology. In many cases, the Rebels won't be able to amass large armies for fear of being discovered, so they'll often find it wiser to build only scattered holdings across different planets. However, the Rebels will have a strong advantage in terms of intelligence-gathering. Consequently, the Rebels will have spies everywhere. And in the meantime, the massive forces of the Empire will also be...everywhere. In fact, your gathered intelligence may actually be stored and used like a "quest log" in a traditional role-playing game, so once the Rebels receive fresh information on what the Empire is doing and where it's doing it, they can take appropriate action based on each tip received.
