|Kuat Campaign Prolouge MapPack (1.3) - File Description
| Description: |
Two maps, one campaign. One map in the blackness of space, the other in the blackness of night.
Space: Good for the rebels, lots of stuff to blow up. It doesn't do anything except allow for large ships to move through. Other than that, it's well balanced and fun.
Land: It's so dark. There's no satellite for the rebels, so you can't see the enemy. I've seen night maps done before (Naboo Nights) that have given the appearance of night without being so dark. I recommend making that change.
Overall: Good map, good story, good download.

Okay everyone! I'm going to turn these Kuat maps into a little mini-campaign. You, the player, will follow and command a particular Alliance or Imperial Battalion. The missions will progress under the assumption that the Alliance won. As such, you will be the same character for the Alliance, known as 'Commander' throughout the entire campaign. You will often find that the imperial character changes as your predecessors are...dishonorably discharged for suffering defeats at the hands of the Alliance.

Chapter 2: Kuat: KDY Headquarters
READ THE OTHER README FILES AND BRIEFINGS!
Kuat Campaign Prologue Part 1: Deep Orbit
Commander! The Alliance fleet finally makes its long-awaited move on the Imperial shipbuilding planet of Kuat, headquarters of Kuat Drive Yards, the manufacturer of the Star Destroyer. Taking this key world will deal a devastating blow to Imperial morale and their general war effort.
I know you are an army officer, Commander, but we are short on skilled fleet commanders. You are being temporarily shipped out of your battalion to take command of a task force being deployed to the outer reaches of Kuat's orbit.
Here, in deep orbit, is KDY's junk yard. They dump all their scrap metal and unused parts here. Recently, the Drive Yards have realized that the junk and scraps can be melted down to produce cheaper, albeit weaker hulled, Star Destroyers and other ships. In a joint operation between Seinar Fleet Systems and Kuat Drive Yards, a shipyard was built right at the junk dump.
Intelligence reports that several Star Destroyers and numerous fighter squadrons here could be finished within the week. You must secure the area, destroy the shipyard, and remove any Imperials that come to stop you. Your forces are limited, but you are being given clearance to set up a PreFab starbase on site to reinforce your fleet.
Be aware that the numerous, and often dangerous, junk pieces have been reacting together to create ionized nebulas in the area. The drawback is possible loss of shields and other ship abilities; the plus side is that these nebulas tend to corrode the junk and create a clear path through the dump.
Captain! The rebel scum are making an attempt to strike at our deep orbit shipyards. With our primary fleet engaged closer to Kuat, it is up to to protect your section of Kuat space. Your small starbase can be upgraded to allow you to call in larger and larger ships. You will need all the firepower you can get.
Mind the junk, Captain. Command Out.
Well, I must admit there isn't anything really special about this space map. It's hard to make good ones because it seems like no matter what you do or what features you add, they always play exactly the same. Part 2 of the prologue will be fun, I promise!
The Kuat Campaign Prologue Part 2
Kuat: Tactical Insertion
Commander! I had no idea you had such aptitude for commanding fleets. I'm sure you're happy to be back with your battalion, though, and you are about to have your feet on solid ground.
Despite taking Kuat's orbit, we have been having problems finding a Landing Zone for our army. Their triple-A defenses seemed airtight at first, until we found a single hole.
This hilly, forested region was the last place we thought we would find an LZ, but there it was. Their AAA doesn't seem to cover a tiny island in the center of the shallow lake in this area. We have landed a small force there, under your command, and begun to establish a base. Your mission is simple: remove the imperial presence from your immediate areas so that we can land the remainder of the army. The attack is under cover of night, commander, so turn on those infared goggles and get to work.
Imperial structures are scattered throughout the map, all surrounded by Anti Air Artillery. If we act fast, we may be able to take out one or two early on, before the Empire has a chance to respond. Most of the Empire's units are scattered around at the out-base sites. However, a pair of scout walkers and a treaded TIE vehicle are stationed at their main, shielded, base. As the snowspeeder group you have been given will not be very useful in attacking the out-bases, you should use it to find and intercept these forces as they move out to reinforce one of the out-bases.
Good Luck, Commander. May the force be with you.
Colonel, you have foolishly allowed a rebel strike force to land in your vicinity! They are setting up a base on that island in the middle of your assigned area. Dispatch them quickly.
Your troops and structures are scattered; consolidate, and build up more forces, to mount and adequate defense. Then take the fight to the rebel landing zone.
Faliure will not be tolerated, Colonel. Command out.
This is not a particularly great map, but its offbeat and interesting to play. The imperial base is scattered and hard to defend, with most structures being sited at out-base Anit-Air emplacements. The Rebel base is all in one spot and protected by a sheild, but not all the structures are built yet.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The game doesn't seem to be able to render the dark water very well if the graphics are low.
You'll notice most of the screenshots are of AT-AAs. I've found that these are the most photogenic ground units; the cinematic camera really handles them well.
