| Admiralty Class Destroyer (1.0) - File Description |
 |
NOTE: This file has become outdated and there's a newer / better version available. You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!
Description:
I'm not familiar with a winged Star Destroyer that's not a Victory class. But that's not important. I would like the author to put a link in the comments section to the article on Wookieepedia so that people can use that as a picture reference. Thanks.
Now I'm all for fanon and the expansion of the universe, but I feel this Star Destroyer may be a bit too powerful to fit in the niche the author wants it to be in. I think that's the biggest problem with fanon. But don't take that the wrong way, I really do like it and love to see new things.
Additionally, the presentation section (below) is a nice touch. It's rare that anything gets this sort of attention to detail or fanfare.

| | | Admiralty Class Destroyer (1.0) - Readme | | Readme File: This was one of the first things I ever modded. As such, I have taken great care to ensure that it is virtually glitchless. I had seen on Wookieepedia where there was an Imperial Destroyer variant with "wings" like a Victory, but that's all it really said about it. So I just decided I would take it further and create the Admiralty Class Star Destroyer. The "story" behind this unit (fanon) is much like how our own military buys vessels and fighters and weapons, etc. This was Rendili's failed bid for the Imperial Capital Ship Contract. As it doesn't have many weapon systems, very light armor, and is smaller than the Imperial Class, it didn't fit as well with the Tarkin Doctrine way of doing things. I took the one "winged" version that would have been built as a prototype to be the one referenced on Wookieepedia.
I'm pretty sure everything anyone would need to add this in is in the files. Icons, models, and text descriptions are included. Interested parties will need modding experience, as the XML code is simply copied and pasted to a text document (sorry).
Special thanks to the Steiner Modding Group for the TIE Avenger model, Warb_Null for the "extra bones" model of the Victory, and of course, LucasArts and Petroglyph for letting me play in their world.
***The Presentation***
The Admiralty Class Destroyer is based heavily in the successful Victory Cruiser design, taking many styling and function cues to heart. Though outwardly similar, the similarities end there. The Admiralty (originally called "Victory Super Cruiser" during the design and testing stages) is larger than its sister, at over 1400 meters stem to stern. It is also much faster than any Rendili ship in the past with cruising speeds exceeding most corvettes at full, and full speeds exceeding even some fighter models. This makes it an excellent choice for chasing down rogue factions looking to make a getaway. The hyperdrive system has also been extensively upgraded and is the fastest available anywhere, at any price. To compensate for lighter hull plating--which is what allows the Admiralty to be so fast--heavier shield generators have been added, as well as guidance jamming systems for incoming warheads.
The weapon systems follow in the unorthodox trend, having no large energy weapons like turbo lasers or ion cannon. Instead of trying to deal damage directly to an enemy's shields, the Admiralty carries systems that bypass shields altogether. Two heavy mass-driver cannon housed in the wing-like hull extensions are effective against all large targets, and bow, port and starboard torpedo tubes are equipped with the newest torpedo warheads, enhanced for distance, speed, and power. Finally, to deal with smaller pests like fighters and bombers, rapid fire laser cannon are strategically placed about the super-structure.
The hanger bay is also modular in nature, allowing for upgrades to fighter/bomber support hardware as newer, faster, and more powerful craft are introduced into the Empire's arsenal. Currently, the hanger is configured to carry Seinar's latest offerings of the TIE/Int and newest TIE/x.2 Avenger fighter/bomber. There's talk that SFS will be offering a new fighter design soon. As the technology of the Empire advances, the Admiralty won't lag behind, and will be ready to carry this new craft into battle.
All in all, the Admiralty Class Destroyer is a vessel of exceptional power, performance, and value. Though unconventional, it is well-balanced, and uncompromising. As a ship-of-the-line and flagship, it will make an excellent addition and upgrade to the Victory and Venator destroyers already in service.
That's how I think the presentation probably would have gone, as well as several ships being destroyed in the process. I encourage anyone with any comments about how this unit plays to speak up, good or bad. Anyone, however, that wishes to condemn me for "making up stuff" or creating fanon, please keep it to yourself. I know not everyone likes unofficial creations, which is fine. But even the "real" stuff was made up, too...A long time ago, something, something away..... | |

Lord_Axxis From: (Iowa) Joined: February 12th, 2010 Posts: 66 | My apologies to InvisibleHand for the miscredit to Warb_Null. It was very late/early when I posted this and had Warb-models on the brain (don't we all!). Also added is the Wookieepedia link about the winged destroyer. It's under the "Variants" heading, just a short paragraph. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_I-class_Star_Destroyer |
